A guided tour of the volcanic archipelago of Westman Islands, devastated by an eruption in 1973, including flight from Reykjavík. Optional boat trip in Westman Islands available upon request May through September.

Our destination is the Westman Islands, a natural geologic hot spot. We'll begin our tour at the airport and learn about the 1973 volcanic eruption that devastated the community even as it improved the harbor. Buried houses are still to be seen along the edge of the lava flow, and we’ll feel the heat of the earth for ourselves. After a break for lunch, we’ll board a boat (upon request) for a tour of this remarkable archipelago. Iceland boasts the world’s largest puffin population – the delightful little bird abounds here during summer, providing exciting photo opportunities!
