This tour takes you from Reykjavík to the island of Heimaey in the Westmann Islands archipelago. Surtsey was formed by a submarine volcanic eruption lasting from 1963-1967, while an eruption on Heimaey in 1973 submerged half its town in lava and ash.
This is an interesting ride into the narrow, geothermal valley Grensdalur, noted for its colourful and unusual mineral and mountain formations, which can only be compared to Landmannalaugar.
